So which one is the bassist?

Awesome as always, V.P. I think maybe I’ll stat up some (equally formidable) groupies to chase these guys.

What was your impression of the new rules?

I was figuring Oxaal to be the bassist, but it could be Towan, too. It depends on if we’re going for the stereotype of the short, round bassist or the tall, skinny bassist 🙂

Thanks, G! Stat ’em up for sure!

I’m not entirely sold on the “Initiative as combat stat” thing, but otherwise I think I’m ok with the changes. I’m not a fan of the new art, though. I wasn’t from the start, which is why I almost didn’t back the Kickstarter. It’s not terrible or anything. But I was just so enamored of Grumph’s art in the Legendary edition. It really said pulp action to me. The news stuff seems to pack less of a punch. The layout is nice, though.

In short, it’s a mixed reaction. Not sure that I feel compelled to switch to Mythic, but it’s the current flavor, so it has that going for it. Then again, BotA, Dicey Tales, Dogs of War, and H+I are all based on Legendary, so I’m tied a bit more to it. And, of course, all of my past output is Legendary-based as well. So time will tell, I suppose. Not that I really get to play BoL in any format anyway (stupid players wanting their stupid crunch!).

      How about you? Your thoughts?

I’m supposed to have some content in the form of an official adventure coming out, but I haven’t heard word on that yet. Venomous Filigree just survived a heart attack, so that might have something to do with it.

I’m okay with the initiative stat replacing brawl. There’s some expanded options on mighty successes that I liked, too. But I’m with you on Grumph’s art–it’s become iconic in my mind with BoL.

Oh goodness! I’m sorry to hear about VenFil’s heart attack! I do hope he’s properly on the mend.

It’ll be good to see one of your adventures get proper acknowledgment and spotlight as an official thing, dude. You’re the BoL adventure king!

I definitely like the mighty success options, yes. They’re something I’d likely port over to Legendary if I stick with that generation of the rules. I guess that’s the thing, actually. Most of what seems to have changed or been added feels like it would have been just fine added on to Legendary. Perhaps as “unearthed arcana” of a sort. So a whole new edition with some changes I don’t necessarily dig (again, I’m mostly talking Initiative here) seems a high price to pay for some nifty options that don’t really need a new edition to use.

Still, it’s BoL. And that’s a good thing. Even if the art ain’t Grumph.

I was just looking at your blog today to see what you thought of the new BoL since I’m currently in waffle mode and trying to gain GM inspiration. And behold!

It’s like I’m psychic. Or, more accurately, telepathetic 🙂

      Also, mmmm, waffles.

I haven’t seen anything that screams for me to make a switch to Mythic, personally. It’s not at all bad. Just not the kind of leap that Legendary was from the original version. I’m actually thinking (now that you and the mighty G-Man are making me think) that I would happily play Mythic but would probably stick with Legendary for GMing. Maybe. I believe. Perhaps. Yes? Again, waffles!
