BoL Character: Andrei Ivanovich Denisov

Wherein your humble scribe presents a Barbarians of Lemuria system character inspired by the “rebirth” of Mythic Russia. Perhaps we should call this hybrid Bogatyrs of Russia? 🙂

When he had passed his 16th year, Andrei Ivanovich Denisov left his family’s home in the Podol quarter of Kiev for the melodies of the wider world. Though his father was a good man, and successful in his own right, Andrei was simply not prepared to carry on in the family business, selling implements and equipment to the farmers of the region.

After passing three years as a mercenary in the service of a Muscovite prince, Andrei has finally arrived in Novgorod, where he seeks to find his fortune as a performer or, failing that, as a sea captain.

Though Andrei is not a true practitioner of dvoeverie, he calls on the wisdom of Perun the Prince and Veles the Merchant almost as often as he does that of St. Alexander Nevsky and St. Nicholas the Wet.

Indeed it can, Gobbo! It’s actually a pretty good fit, which is why I decided to try a character with BoL. The funny thing is that HeroQuest, which is the system on which Mythic Russia is built, is “too light” for me in many regards. So I thought I’d try it in BoL, which is also pretty darn light (though typically in different ways).

Of course, BoL has proven, in general, to be “too light” for my players (dagnabbit!) so as noted before if I actually get to run something in this setting I’ll probably be using BRP. Which means I really need to consider codifying my BoL to BRP conversion thoughts 🙂

Great character. I am glad to see BoL getting a little jolt, it seems to be flagging a bit on the forum.

Glad you dig him, comrade bat. I know I’ve been falling down on my BoL love lately (along with everything else :)) but it really seems like a great match for Mythic Russia. And again, if I could just get my silly ass players to go along with me on BoL I’d be running it more (and therefore blogging about it more). Stupid players 🙂
